Purple Peacock Broccoli is a delightful Calabrese Sprouting culinary edible form bred by Frank Morton. Enjoy this iteration of a cross between a delicious uniform broccoli and two distinctive kales that produce wavy-looking purple leaves with round edges and brilliant pink veining with gorgeous purple crowns. A definite must have for an ornamental edible garden - the color is outstanding! The crowns and leaves retain their color when eaten fresh and cook to a dark green when steamed, stir fried or sauteed. Leaves are most tender and display their richest color when harvested young and mature leaves are more like traditional kale in form and texture. This variety is excellent for overwintering and is a long seasonal producer when the center crown is harvested early. You can expect multiple side branching stems for continual harvest. Transplants in early spring and again in midsummer for an abundant autumn harvest. 50 to 70 days. Packet: 100 seeds.
