Poppy Hens and Chicks, commonly known as Breadseed Poppy, is by far one of our favorite ornamental textural elements to add to every garden! A cut flower favorite for good reason, these cold hardy favorites produce well formed plants that send up long, stiff stems topped with large, globe shaped seed pods surrounded at the midriff with clustered smaller seed pods. Thus the name, "Hens and Chicks", representing the main pod as the hen and the smaller pods as the chicks. Plants with lettuce leaf like leaves freely self sow and grow to 28" to 32" inches tall and prefer well drained soil in a sunny location. The pods can be used as a fresh cut flower or as a dried everlasting. This variety produces an abundant amount of individual pods that can be used for baking and making oils. Although this variety is used primarily for its amazing seed pods, the flowers that proceed the seed pod party are lilac with dark purple centers and a pretty pre-show charmer. Winter hardy to zone 3. Packet: approx. 200 seeds.
