Panicum amarum, commonly known as Bitter Panic Grass, is a near cousin to Switchgrass that thrives in coastal climates with sandy or very well drained soil. Well formed, vertical clumps of blue-green blade grass grow 36" to 48" inches tall and once established, set deep roots. Although this perennial grass is commonly used for coastal stabilization of dunes, controlling wind erosion and reclamation of gravel and mine sites, Panicum amarum is also grown as a cut flower filler green ingredient for its beautiful fall panicles that produce deep rosy sprays, coveted among floral creatives for their airy feel and wispy appearance. Panicum amarum is recognized as a robust biomass producer and is often included in biodiverse polyculture mixes. This warm season bunchgrass prefers full sun, has a high drought tolerance and tolerates some salt in soils. Packet: 50 seeds.
