Luffa Gourds are the live version of luffa sponges! Grow your very own luxurious luffa sponges with this whimsical, carefree, vining gourd that grows easily on a sturdy trellis or garden fence line. Luffa Gourds are actually a type of squash, but rarely eaten. They are primarily grown for their fibrous flesh interior that makes a wonderful, all natural scrubbing sponge when dried. The gourd will grow an average of 6" inches to 18" inches long and ripen to a very dark green in late summer. Allow them to fully ripen and the skin will begin to peel away from the fiber which signals that it is time for harvest! Scrub the skin away in water, revealing the porous, fibrous flesh matter within. Cut the gourd to the desired size & shake out all the seeds. Dry fully and they are ready to use! 100 days. Heirloom variety. Packet: 20 seeds.
