Eupatorium maculatum atropurpureum, commonly known as Joe Pye Weed, is an imported perennial that produces a well formed, upright, 60" inch shrub with lance-shaped, dark green leaves radiating from the stem that form a whorl of 3 to 4 leaves. The shrub grows almost as wide as it does tall. Blooms feature a canopy of flower umbels, consisting of hundreds of tiny micro blooms, in a mauve-wine shade with dusky purple stems. The flower clusters span 6" to 8" inches in a disk type shape. This variety makes an excellent border planting and brings on the heaviest of blooms towards the end of summer when other garden favorites start to fade in the heat of the baking summer sun. Pairing well with native ornamental grasses, it makes an ideal flower bed border. Perfect for defining separate gardening rooms in vast landscapes and where transitions are needed from highly groomed areas to natural habitats. Joe Pye Weed is also a staple cut flower, grown by commercial cut flower producers to provide a bouquet and arrangement filler. This variety is a super pollinator attractant and will be set abuzz the moment flower blooms emerge. Notably, Joe Pye Weed was awarded the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit (AGM). Packet: 50 seeds.
