Verbena hastata American Violet is a celebrated perennial and a super pollinator attractor. This first year flowering perennial is commonly known as Vervain. Although a well known member of the wildflower family, this variety is not invasive. It is ideal in a cutting garden or enjoyed as a mix of wildflowers in a prairie or savanna setting. Plants grow upwards of 60" inches tall and produce an abundance of multi spiked flower heads that remind us of a floral candelabra of sorts. Each "candle" is covered in an abundance of micro flowers that open from the base to the tip. In fact, Verbena has a history dating back to the Roman Empire when the multi-spiked flower bracts were soaked in oil and used as torches. Easy to grow, prefers wet soil and thrives in a sunny location or variegated shade for part of the day. Notably, livestock will not consume Verbena and this variety is also deer resistant. Hardy to zone 4. Packet: 50 seeds.
